Haliburton Sculpture Forest in Glebe Park – 40 minutes away

There are more than 30 large scale sculptures created by Canadian and International artists, nestled along the trails at Glebe Park, home to Fleming College. A beautiful walk in the woods, with an artistic spectacle at every turn.

Guided Bike Tour with an Eye on Art – 40 minutes away

Discover the world of art in Haliburton Village in a way like no other. This 10-12 km guided bicycle tour explores around Head Lake. It includes the Rails End Gallery, a variety of studios and visual attractions including the Haliburton Sculpture Forest and Haliburton School of Art. Lunch at the museum is included. Petroglyphs Provincial Park, North Kawartha – approximately an hour away toward Peterborough.

See more than 1000 rock carvings done between 500 & 1000 years ago at Petroglyphs Provincial Park. The park preserves the largest known concentration of carvings in Canada and images depict primitive drawings of birds, turtles, and humans among others. See the aqua-green meromictic McGinnis Lake, an unusual body of water with layers of color that don’t intermix – perfect to capture on film. Watch for Ontario’s only native lizard, the five-lined skink. Open 10am – 5pm Mon-Sun in summer months.

Glass Blowing Class – Artech Glass Blowing Studios

Register ahead of time, and spend some time in their studio learning how to blow glass, and make something awesome to take home with you. Located in Tory Hill, ON, they are just 20 minutes from Footprints – this could be the chance you were looking to try something new! [email protected]

Ziplining and High Ropes at Medeba Adventure Learning Centre – 50 minutes away

It will be High Fives all around after you experience zip-lining and conquer several elements of the high ropes course at Medeba Adventure Learning Center. A great team-building exercise for friends, groups or any adventurers interested in pushing the limitations of gravity! 2 hrs, available May-June and Sept-Nov. This would really be gorgeous in the fall! Requires average – advanced level of fitness to enjoy.

Wild Edibles Walk – 1 hour away

Come forage the woods, wetlands, and roadsides of the Haliburton Highlands. Learn how to identify and harvest the choicest parts of wild edibles, how to prepare them, and then, best of all, to taste them. Join our Wild Edibles Expert, Carolyn Langdon, for a 2-4 hour walking tour and learn what you can eat in the wild. Options offered: tasting, lunch or dinner, special workshops, or personalized on-site consultation. Available May thru November.

Rockhound Gemboree – July 20 – August 2, 2020, in Bancroft

Bancroft is considered the Gem Capital of Canada and hosts the Rockhound Gemboree every summer, attracting thousands of visitors to the area. There are exhibits of minerals, crystals, gems, and fossils. Shop for one-of-a-kind jewelry and art pieces or find that perfect addition to your own collection. Activities such as Mineral Collecting field trips, Key not speakers, Demonstrations and workshops are offered at this 4-day event. There is a major outdoor arts and craft show at Centennial Park that same weekend, so be sure to check it out.
